AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has donated an additional one million Ghana cedis (GH₵1,000,000) to support infrastructural development at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Obuasi Campus. The presentation was made during a two-day working visit of the Vice-Chancellor to the Campus on Wednesday and Thursday, February 15 and 16, 2023.
Presenting the cheque to KNUST, Mr. Eric Asubonteng, the Managing Director of AGA stated that since the establishment of the Obuasi campus in 2019, AGA has made significant financial contributions to the development of the Campus. AGA has altogether donated One Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,850,000).

He mentioned that the decision to partner with KNUST to build a satellite University campus in Obuasi sits well within the company's 10-year socio-economic development plan aimed at contributing to the growth and development of Obuasi.
Mr. Eric Asubonteng pointed out that AGA designed a thorough development strategy with the goal of having a long-lasting influence since it recognises its role in promoting the socioeconomic well-being of the areas in which it operates. He continued by saying that AGA will help students gain real-world experience and set up a scholarship programme for the indigenes of the host town. This scholarship programme will aim at improving science and technology education, which is a vital component for development. “We will travel the educational journey with you to achieve the goal we all need, and this partnership is for the long term,” he added.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her sincere appreciation to AGA for their remarkable contribution towards the growth and development of the Obuasi campus. She observed that the University is growing steadily from 343 students in 2020 to 2,268 in 2023. She assured AGA that the funds received will be put to judicious use for the expansion of infrastructural facilities on the Campus. These facilities will include modern lecture spaces, libraries, laboratories, and staff bungalows. She noted that KNUST will ensure that education in Obuasi is highly improved.
The Vice-Chancellor and her delegation proceeded to inspect some ongoing projects on the Campus. The delegation also held an interactive session with lecturers and student leaders to gain insight into the challenges they face and to encourage them to continue their excellent work in raising the profile of the University.
